onsemi MC74HC595A/MC74HCT595A 8-Bit Serial-Input/Serial or Parallel-Output Shift Registers consists of an 8−bit D−type latch with three−state parallel outputs and an 8−bit shift register. The shift register provides a serial output and accepts serial data. The shift register also offers parallel data to the 8−bit latch. The latch and shift register have independent clock inputs. These devices also have an asynchronous reset for the shift register.

The device directly interfaces with the SPI serial data port on CMOS MPUs and MCUs. The onsemi MC74HC595A device inputs are compatible with Standard CMOS outputs. With pull-up resistors, the devices are compatible with TTL outputs. The MC74HCT595A device inputs are compatible with Standard CMOS or TTL outputs.
